Helen Matthews has been called “a mover and a shaker” and “a cornerstone of the Australian Jazz scene”. She is “WA’s First Lady of Jazz”, “the earth mother of Perth’s chanteuses”, and “one of the finest jazz vocalists this country has produced”. With a career spanning over half a century, Matthews has performed for the Queen and the Pope and is responsible for some of the most innovative jazz projects and festivals that WA has ever seen.
In this exclusive show for PIJF, vocalists Ali Bodycoat and Libby Hammer with long-time contemporaries Ray Walker, Karl Florisson, Gary Howard, and special guest Sue Bluck, perform the music for which Matthews is most well-known – celebrating and acknowledging her exceptional achievements.
